Presidents and First Ladies of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan visited Poi-Kalyan Complex in Bukhara

AZERBAIJAN, August 24 - On August 24, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva, and family members visited the Poi-Kalyan Complex in Bukhara.

The name of the complex means “the pedestal of the Great.” One of its main monuments, the Kalyan Minaret, was built in 1127.

The Kalyan Mosque is the largest mosque in Bukhara. Constructed in the 16th century, the mosque can accommodate up to 12,000 worshippers at a time.

The Mir-i Arab Madrasah, located within the complex, is a religious educational institution. The madrasah was built in the 16th century by Abdullah Yamani, also known as Mir-i Arab.
